I made it. I came home. The Unfolding of 2021 deposited me back into the woods where my soul longed to be since I left a month before my 8th birthday. It only took 4+ decades to complete the journey, but I’m HOME.
Many of us have been shaken to our very core and had our hearts and relationships stirred by the things we have seen, heard, felt, and experienced in the last year and a half. Politics, culture, health, society, education, business, religion, and pretty much all other aspects of how we experience a human existence have been exploding or imploding—and often both—leaving us feeling adrift and anxious about where to turn, what to do, and how to access even a basic sense of common ground and safety.
Our “new normal” is anything but normal, but it is here, and requires adjustments on our part as Therapists, Healers, and Lightworkers to help meet the demands of so many who have been thrown off-kilter.
It seems fitting to reboot (again) my desire to write and tell stories with a new-to-me concept I just learned from renowned social worker, vulnerability specialist, and storyteller herself, Brene’ Brown. In her books she explains a powerful non-blaming, non-judgmental communication tool called “The story I’m telling myself.” This little phrase unravels miscommunications, un-sticks stuck spots, clears away mental fog, and illuminates dark corners in conversations.
“The story I am telling myself is…”
…each of our cells is a consciousness, which in effect means we are a tiny, vast cosmos within ourselves. Our cells group in systems, organs, and so forth, rather like continents or even planets, working in harmony with one another, communicating and sorting themselves. Our internal dialogue, our voice echoing throughout the expanse of our internal cosmos, is like unto the “voice of god” to our cells.
And in that one thought I realized I frequently sound like a lousy god —rather Old Testament-ish, full of death, destruction, separation, judgment; harsh and cruel while occasionally tossing out a few nice, poetic lines of tenderness.
Voice Dialogue is intense, gutsy, and very, very deep. It is not something to take on lightly. It requires enough time to open doors and thoroughly investigate whatever is presented from the hidden corners of our psyche, resolve those issues and tuck everything back in under its new understanding. It literally gives a Voice to the disowned aspects of our lives and selves.
The energy which our souls are made of is the ultimate energy of all of Creation, and as such, cannot be divided or separated. We cannot be "lost" or "cut off" from our own Source. We are never seen as unworthy by our Inner Beings, either. Negative emotion is simply the guidance tool to help us recognize when we have chosen a frequency lower than who we really are. Rather than condemn, it invites us to realign and re-adjust.
The disparity between what my religion taught and my own experience with Divinity had grown so great that something had to change - or else I would break. People in those situations are often counseled by church leadership to put their unanswered questions on a “spiritual shelf” to be answered by God later. My shelf was loaded to an extreme. And then one day, it fell.
When I ignore the feeling of “off,” things start to behave like an off balance washing machine, threatening to take out the whole basement.
"Where your attention goes, your heart follows; where your heart focuses, becomes your treasure; what you treasure becomes what you love and worship (care for). Be very careful what you are giving your attention to. Just because it is true, doesn't mean it is worthy of your attention. Just because it is real, does not mean it deserves your focus."
Pleasure is energy reciprocated: What you put out comes back. Your base level of pleasure is determined by how you view your whole life.—Oprah
